Browntop vegetable Idli 

For new moms, making a healthy breakfast for kids is a real challenge. Therefore, it is a quick option. 


Ingredients 

  1. 2 cups Browntop millet
  2. 3/4th cups of Urad Dal
  3. ¼ the cup Poha
  4. ½ cup Vegetables (chopped finely) 
  5. Salt to taste 
  6. Oil for greasing

Recipe

  • First, take a bowl and add Browntop millet. Wash thoroughly and soak it for at least 6 hours. 
  • Take Urad dal and Poha in another bowl and soak after washing for a minimum of 4 hours. 
  • Put all these three items without water in a mixture grinder and prepare a smooth batter. You can add water, but the consistency should be thick and frothy. 
  • Take the mixture into a big bowl and mix well with salt. 
  • Keep it covered in a warm place for at least 6 hours. 8 hours of fermenting is recommended. 
  • The next day the mixture will turn fluffy. Now gently mix it with vegetables once to get a uniform consistency. 
  • Gris the idli plates and pour the mixture into moulds 
  • Steam cook for 10 minutes on a medium-high flame. 
  • Demould after 3 minutes and serve with coconut chutney.

Bonus tips: Add cold water while grinding the mixture. Else heat generated during the process makes the idli hard.



Browntop millet veg rice

Living without rice is challenging for you. Let's try this recipe for a healthy replacement option. 


Ingredients 

  1. 1 cup Browntop millet (soaked and boiled) 
  2. ½ cup moong dal (washed and soaked) 
  3. 1 cup mixed vegetables (blanched) 
  4. 2 tsp ginger paste
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Two green chilies (finely chopped) 
  7. ¼ tsp Cumin
  8. ½ tsp Chana dal
  9. ¼ tsp black mustard seeds 
  10. ½ tsp Urad da
  11. 2-4 curry leaves 
  12. 1 tsp ghee (optional) 
  13. ¼ cup coriander leaves (finely chopped) 

Recipe

  • Heat the non-stick pan and add 3 tsp of oil. 
  • Now add cumin, mustard seeds, chana dal, and urad dal. Let it crackle for a few seconds. 
  • Add green chilies and ginger paste. Fry it until the raw smell goes away. 
  • Add moong dal without water and curry leaves, and fry it. Cover the pan and wait for 2 minutes. 
  • Now add all vegetables and salt and mix it well. Cover and cook for 1 minute.
  • Fry the mixture after adding Browntop millet for 3 minutes. 
  • Serve it with fresh coriander leaves or ghee. You can enjoy the meal with the raita or salad. 

Bonus tips: People who prefer non-veg food can add shredded chicken or paneer to make it yummier. Don't forget to add 1 tsp of the garlic paste as well.
